Emergency Alert testing – Sunday, 23 April 2023
Mickleham Parish Council
At 3pm on Sunday, 23 April, there will be a national test of the UK’s new Emergency Alerts system on most phones and devices.
The alert system has been launched to warn individuals if there is a danger to life nearby and to offer advice on how to stay safe. This may be in emergency situations such as severe flooding, fires and extreme weather.
The phone or device will make a loud siren-like sound, even when the phone is set to silent/vibrate. This will last for around 10 seconds, and you will not be able to use your device until the notification is acknowledged.
Please do not panic! This is only a test notification.
You can find out further information on the Government website here.
We understand there has been some concern raised around those experiencing domestic abuse, and for whom a secret phone can be a lifeline. You are able to opt-out of the emergency alerts and can do so in your device settings by turning off ‘severe alerts’ and ‘extreme alerts’. Information on how to opt-out can be found here.
